Boris Johnson news – live: Sue Gray’s ‘excoriating’ Partygate review ‘will force PM to resign’

Prime minister Boris Johnson will be forced to resign once the “damning” findings of Sue Gray’s review of lockdown-breaching parties in Whitehall are revealed, according to a report.

“Sue’s report is excoriating,” one unnamed official was quoted by The Times as saying. “It will make things incredibly difficult for the prime minister… her report could be enough to end him.”

Ms Gray, a senior civil servant, was forced to delay the publication of her investigation into alleged parties held in Downing Street and Whitehall during the UK’s coronavirus-induced lockdowns after the police launched their own probe.

The prime minister was present in at least 12 events at No 10, and fined for the celebration of his 56th birthday held in the cabinet room.

Meanwhile, Mr Johnson was forced to condemn “misogyny” from his own party after deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner accused Tory MPs of using anonymous briefings to spread “desperate, perverted smears”.

The prime minister, in a show of support for the deputy Labour leader, said he “deplored the misogyny directed at her anonymously” in a Mail report accusing her of “Basic Instinct tactics” in the House of Commons.
