More than 1,600 Azerbaijani citizens left UkraineSocial 

Baku/01.03.22/ More than 1600 citizens of Azerbaijan have left Ukraine since the start of the hostilities on February 28. 

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that 950 Azerbaijani citizens left for Moldova, 447 for Poland, 17 for Hungary, 200 for Romania, and 13 for Slovakia.

These countries are temporarily receiving Azerbaijani citizens for their onward departure to Baku.

The evacuation of Azerbaijani citizens from Ukraine is ongoing.

Last night, 176 Azerbaijani citizens evacuated from Ukraine were delivered to Baku by a special flight of Azerbaijan Airlines from Romania.

In tyurn, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Ukraine provided details of death circumstances of the Azerbaijanis as a result of the hostilities in that country.

“A convoy of eight cars with Azerbaijanis who were trying to evacuate at their own initiative from the Odessa region to Moldova due to the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine, was fired at about 2:00 am on February 27 by unknown persons near the Kuchurgan checkpoint near the unrecognized Trans-Dnestrian Republic,” the Embassy said in a statement.

Azerbaijani citizens Neimat Ismailov, born 1976, Rahim Ismailov, born 1966, and Gabil Ismailov, born 1995, were killed as a result of the shelling.

“According to the relatives of the dead, another four Azerbaijani citizens were wounded. Ukrainian police arrived at the scene, the bodies were taken to the morgue and the injured were hospitalised. The condition of the wounded is reported to be satisfactory,” the Embassy said in a press release. However, the names of the injured were not disclosed.

Also, on February 27, at around 9 a.m., an Azerbaijani citizen, Goshgar Mamedov, born 1987, was killed by a bullet from an unknown direction in central Kharkov when he went out to buy water in a quiet environment.

“Owing to the current situation, it is planned to send the bodies of the dead to Azerbaijan as soon as possible,” the statement further reads.

Given the heightened security situation in various regions of Ukraine, the Embassy recommends that citizens of Azerbaijan remain in their places of residence, abide by curfew requirements, stay away from military facilities and places of active hostilities, leave their homes only in case of emergency, and follow information on the situation from Ukrainian government agencies and the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry and the Embassy in Kiev.-06B-
