Suella Braverman, who is back at home secretary just six days after resigning over a security breach, deserves a second chance, Nadhim Zahawi has said amid backlash over her reappointment.
“She admitted her mistake, she resigned. A new prime minister came in, looked at the information and decided that he wants to give her a second chance,” the Tory party chair told Sky News.
“I think that is the right decision. Redemption is a good thing.”
Ms Braverman resigned last week after she was caught sending a Tory backbencher an official document from a personal email account and accidently copied in another Tory MP’s aide who raised the alarm.
Sir Jake Berry, who was Tory party chair at the time, claimed the home secretary had committed “multiple breaches of the ministerial code” in an interview last night.
He said she was responsible for a “really serious breach” relating to confidential government discussions of cybersecurity.
