Ukraine-Russia war – live: Kyiv inches forward in counteroffensive as ‘cluster munitions hit Russian village’

Ukraine is inching forward in the counteroffensive against Vladimir Putin‘s troops, according to a war think tank.

The Institute for the Study of War said that Ukrainian troops have made small advances in the Donetsk-Zaporizhia Oblast border area, as counteroffensive operations continued in western Zaporizhia Oblast and near Bakhmut this week.

Geotagged footage from Monday night showed Volodymyr Zelensky‘s troops making progress in the northwest of Novomayorse, the think tank said in its latest update.

Meanwhile, Moscow claimed Ukraine struck the Russian village of Kilmovo with cluster munitions, damaging several houses. The governor Alexander Bogomaz said there were no casualties. Ukraine has not commented on whether it was behind the attack.

The use of cluster munitions is controversial as the powerful bombs, which are banned in over 100 countries, they release smaller bomblets that can kill over a wide spread area, with the explosive potential of unexploded weapons lingering for decades.

Elsewhere, Ukraine said it had shot down 29 out of 31 Russian drones and one cruise missile in the regions of Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk.
