Rishi Sunak boasted to Tunbridge Wells Tory supporters in July about diverting funding away from “deprived urban areas” towards prosperous areas.
In footage obtained by the New Statesman, the prime minister says he started “changing the funding formulas, to make sure areas like this are getting the funding they deserve.”
“We inherited a bunch of formulas from Labour that shoved all the funding into deprived urban areas.”
“Why doesn’t he do the right thing and undo the changes he made to those funding formulas?” Sir Keir Starmer said during Mr Sunak’s first Prime Minister’s Questions on 26 October.
