Wimbledon school car crash: Girl, 8, and woman fighting for life as driver released on bail

A young girl and a woman are fighting for life in hospital after a car crash at a Wimbledon prep school that killed an eight-year-old girl on Thursday.

In an update on Friday, police confirmed an eight-year-old girl and a woman in her 40s were taken to hospital, where they remain in a life-threatening condition.

A number of other people – including a seven-month-old girl – were rushed to hospital after a Land Rover crashed into The Study Preparatory school. Their conditions are non-life-threatening.

Police also said the driver, a 46-year-old woman, has been released on bail. She was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The crash, which took place during a tea party for pupils to celebrate the last day of term, left an eight-year-old girl dead, police confirmed yesterday.

Locals have been leaving handwritten notes, flowers and toys outside the gates of the school, as the community banded together to pay tribute to the “shining star”.
